New Wedding Lace Now Available

If you are looking for a fresh and exciting lace to create your dream bridal dress for a sumptuous spring wedding, check out our brand new range which is designed to set the trend for 2014. Two of the gorgeous new bridal fabrics now in stock are Constance and Valerie; both laces are incredibly different yet each offer a unique style and charm.

Towards the end of 2013, black lace became extremely popular on the haute-couture catwalk. Renowned designers used the dramatic fabric to stunning effect on a range of bridal creations, versions of which were then seen at several bridal fabric exhibitions. Black lace is certainly not for everyone but appeals to a bride with a true sense of the dramatic and esoteric, who wants her bridal gown to leave a lasting impression. Valerie black lace, which is also ideal for use on corsets, evening wear and theatrical costumes, is truly exquisite with its bold and extravagant embellishments of sequins, diamantes and beads. The embellished fabric features a host of floral motifs which, running throughout the body of the design, lead the eye to the identical, delicately-fringed borders.

The name Constance, derived from the Latin Constantia meaning 'constant' or 'everlasting', is perfect for our newest ivory lace, which has a timelessly appealing beauty. Matching fringed and scalloped edges surround a fine floral design which has been embellished with soft ivory cording, sequins and beads. As the background of this ivory wedding lace is so heavily embroidered, creating a subtle, opaque ivory hue, this is one of our most luxurious bridal fabrics, at once decadent and sophisticated.

Many new bridal fabrics, including crystal trims and lace appliqués, are now available within our extensive collection. Look out for more details soon; please subscribe to our regular newsletter to make sure you never miss any updates from Platinum Bridal Fabrics.

The tale of Valentinus, a Christian minister during the time of the Roman Empire, is both romantic and tragic. One of the empire's many harsh rulings was to forbid soldiers to marry, a practice that Valentinus found impossible to accept. In secret, Valentinus would illegally conduct wedding ceremonies for such soldiers, as well as providing forbidden ministry to practicing Christians. When these illicit practices were discovered, Valentinus was quickly imprisoned and spent several years in jail awaiting execution. During this time, Valentinus is said to have healed the ailing daughter of his jailer and had become enamoured of her; his final missive to the girl was a goodbye note signed 'from your Valentine'.

The tragic story of Valentinus was popularised by the renowned writer Geoffrey Chaucer during the 14th century and, by the beginning of the 15th century, St. Valentine's Day had become a popular celebration. Nothing much has really changed; sweethearts still send each other greetings cards signed 'from your Valentine' and exchange romantic gifts.

Crystal trims are perfect for enhancing the bust and waistline of a wedding gown and our excellent selection offers everything from the subtle and understated to the flamboyant and extravagant. Falling firmly into this latter category is Exodus, a hand-embroidered crystal trim with a tulle base of fine ivory. Expertly applying a selection of wire, diamantes and beads, our talented designer has lovingly crafted this embellishment with a breathtaking design of bold flowers. A softer effect is offered by Gemini, a narrow crystal trim featuring Celtic-style silver swirls enhanced with opaque diamante highlights.

Adding a final flourish to the wedding gown, crystal motifs are elegant and exciting. The gorgeous embellishments continue to be popular with haute-couture bridal designers who use the highly-embellished items to add glitz and glamour to their collections. The bride seeking something really special cannot fail to be impressed by Carnation, a large and striking design that shimmers with pearls, beads and diamantes. Equally striking yet much more delicate is Regina, a glamorous and opulent motif created with spherical and tubular beads, silver metallic thread and luxurious diamantes.

The New Year is celebrated by almost every culture on the planet, with a stunning variety of customs observed. As it is a time associated with hopeful beginnings and new enterprises, the New Year is often chosen as a time for marriage proposals, signifying the start of a brand new and lasting commitment.

Platinum Bridal Fabrics are proud to present several new laces which have been added to our collection for 2014 and are now in stock, available to purchase. As choosing exactly the right fabric is essential for the bride-to-be, we are pleased to provide samples of our lace in order to allow customers to experience the breathtaking quality of each fabric in the comfort of their own home. Our custom-built website also offers a handy wish-list function, letting you create a personal portfolio of your favourite items for quick and easy later access.

Making its début as our very first corded Champagne lace, Cecelia features a simple, subtle design of large floral garlands running throughout. Matching scalloped edges add to the understated beauty of Cecilia, which will be joined in Spring 2014 by a selection of matching trim and appliqué.

On our most recent sourcing trip to Paris, the city of romance and fashion, one pair of new bridal lace designs featured heavily in everybody's conversation: Ella and Halle. With a very similar style, these lace designs comprise interwoven bouquets of pretty flowers, each of which has been hand-sewn with carefully-selected sequins and beads. Ella lace is the more striking of the two, thanks to an addition of exquisite metallic thread of an opulent Champagne hue.

Dramatic and flamboyant, Harmony ivorylace has a truly striking aesthetic. Big, bold flowers command attention; their bead, sequin and pearl embellishments catch the light and lead the eye into the dense and complex pattern of surrounding foliage. Each embellishment is perfectly sewn and, with an eclectic mixture of silver and ivory thread used to attach them, adds to the dazzling beauty of Harmony lace.

Jodie, another extravagant design, is a lace that is sure to attract much interested attention from our haute-couture customers. A fine and delicate tulle has been skilfully embroidered with a diverse selection of weaves, forming an elegant and tactile design of large flowers. Selected elements of the floral design have then been enhanced with pearls, sequins and beads to complete Jodie lace, which is set to become extremely popular thanks to its unique panache.

Pure Elegance - Bride Oriana Shows off 'Adele' Lace

Platinum Bridal Fabrics were delighted to receive an email including several stunning photographs from one of our customers recently, showing off a fabulous dress created using our gorgeous Adele lace. Bride Oriana looked incredibly beautiful in the expertly-designed gown, which was "exactly as she pictured it".

Oriana chose to design her own dress in order to fully realise her dream of a one-off wedding gown unlike anything 'off the rail'. With the keywords 'elegant', 'modest' and 'unique' as a starting point, Oriana began scouring the internet to seek out the best examples of wedding lace, ordering samples from many different suppliers. From these samples, Oriana and husband Ross found those from Platinum Bridal Fabrics to be the "most authentic looking" and to have a "superior quality to all the others".

After much consideration, Oriana decided that Adele lace was most perfectly suited to her vision, its large, lightly-repeated floral motif both striking and subtle. The lace also features delicately-scalloped edges which were perfect for creating a complex and attractive neckline; this area required expert dressmaking skills to achieve, each piece perfectly placed to create the breathtaking design.

The skirt of Oriana's dress was originally part of her sister's wedding gown, forming the 'borrowed' part of the 'something old, new, borrowed and blue' wedding tradition. The original train of the dress was removed and used underneath the Adele lace to create the bodice of Oriana's dress.

Oriana's wedding gown was made by Phyllis Edmond, mother of the groom. Phyllis expertly crafted the dress according to Oriana's design, finding the material supplied by Platinum Bridal Fabrics to be especially "easy to work with" compared to others she had experienced in the past.

In his email, Ross kindly thanks us for providing that materials that helped to, in his own words, make his bride Oriana look "amazing!!!"; we certainly agree with his opinion! Ross also states that "the service was excellent and we would definitely recommend Platinum Bridal Fabrics to anyone”.

We would like to thank Ross for his lovely email and here we share the photographs of the happy couple, set against the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh Castle.

Please keep your wonderful photographs and stories coming in; it is incredibly satisfying for us to see the finished garments created using our exclusive selection of wedding fabrics. All photos will feature in our online gallery and may be used, with permission, to create articles such as this, offering exclusive advertising opportunities to professional dressmakers.
