Ivory or White? - How to Choose

White and ivory continually top the charts when it comes to bridal colours. Although the two are of a purely monochromatic nature, both options have a stunningly varied range of tones, shades and textures so choosing creatively and selectively between the varying materials is a pleasurable adventure.

The white wedding dress is perhaps the most classic of all and has been since it was popularised by Queen Victoria in 1840. Symbolic of the newness and purity of the bride as she enters into her eternal loving union, the white dress is incredibly versatile, suited to a range of complexions and hair colours. White lace is a particularly attractive when exposed to summer sunlight and teams perfectly with a flower selection of any base colour, subtly reflecting the tones of the petals while reflecting any vivid colours.

Ivory wedding dress material has long been noted for its ability to imbue an exciting and enticing glow to the eyes of its wearer. Evoking a beautiful radiance, these fabrics are designed to both absorb and refract light, bringing a shimmering duality to the gown and creating the most unique display. Ivory lace work particularly well with flowers of deep mauve or purple and, when teamed with the perfect crystal embroidery, create a timeless look that will steal the show.

Choosing between ivory and white is mostly down to personal taste though a general rule is that the shade of the chosen fabric should be at least one shade lighter than the tone of the skin. The best way to select from the array of options is to request a selection of our bridal fabric samples to see which fabric tone suits your unique complexion.

Whichever colour you choose for your ideal bridal gown, Platinum Bridal Fabrics are with you every step of the way. Call our expert bridal team today on 01254 873333 or email info@bridalfabrics.co.uk for ideas, information and inspiration.

Inspired by America – New Crystal Embroidery

For any bride-to-be planning on a summer wedding, a piece of creatively-placed crystal embroidery on the wedding gown is an absolute must. These gorgeous wedding dress embellishments are especially designed to catch light, particularly the strong and direct sunlight of a summer day, before reflecting and refracting it to a dazzling effect. We are excited to announce the addition of several brand new crystal motifs, each inspired by and so named after a different American state.

Florida is known as the 'Sunshine State' and our first new crystal embroidery of the same name is perfectly designed to make the most of summer sunlight. Highly eye-catching, the Florida crystal dress motif is formed from an easily-sewable ivory tulle that has been expertly and extravagantly decorated with beads and diamantes. Perhaps the most exquisite part of the design is provided by individually-stylised sequins that glimmer evocatively.

Our next new crystal motif is Idaho, a long, slim and stylish embellishment. Idaho is popularly referred to as the 'Gem State' and is the perfect name for this glittering motif which features a specially-selected variety of beads and diamante gems. Due to its elegant, minimal shape, Idaho is ideal for using at the waist or just beneath the bust, offering a charming focal point.

Montana, the 'Treasure State', is the name of our next new crystal embroidery. Truly an item of great beauty that should be treasured, the Montana embellishment is simply delightful with its divine array of glittering crystals. A large central area gives way to a gradually-tapering belt, creating an unusual and quirky yet undeniably gorgeous effect.

Texas is the 'Lone Star State' and any bride choosing it is sure to be the one true star of her wedding. With a dynamic winged shape that extends dramatically outwards from a single central flower, the Texas crystal motif is exciting, luxuriant and unique. The beads and diamantes of the design are shot through with fine silver wire, adding even more extravagant glamour to this one-off motif.

Fine, Floaty, Feminine, Fabulous! - Three New Laces

We are excited to introduce three new laces to our range, just in time to join our beautiful Spring/Summer Collection for 2014. Each one of these laces is gorgeous in its own particular way though all are incredibly fine, floaty and feminine; perfect for a wedding on a day of luscious sunshine this coming season.

Our first offering is a new colour twist on a perennial favourite. Katherine lace has been consistently popular with our customers since its launch; its incredibly attractive design of pretty floral bouquets that run throughout the entirety of the lace go some way to explaining this enduring popularity. The background of Katherine lace is created from an ever-changing size of weave to create an entrancing, visually-arresting effect that further increases its appeal. Up until now, Katherine wedding lace has only been available in classic white and ivory but we can now supply the fabric in gorgeous, shimmering gold.

A diaphanous lace with swirling flowers and leaves, Freya immediately commands the attention of the eye, which instinctively explores the complex shapes within the exquisite design. Freya was the goddess of love and beauty according to ancient Norse mythology and is the perfect name for this exciting and evocative fabric which is available exclusively in a rich, deep ivory colour. Right on trend, Freya lace also features tactile fringes at its scalloped edges.

Joining the family of laces that includes Jamie, Brogan, and Sarah, our final lace has a personality and charm all of its own. Brooke has the most delicate of Champagne colorations and, with fringed and symmetrically-scalloped edges leading the eye upwards to a riotous display of swirling flowers and foliage, is one of our most powerful designs. An exciting edge is given to Brooke lace with the use of tactile, uncorded ground weaves.

Established in 1946 and taking place in one of France's most affluent and attractive regions, the Cannes Film Festival is the world's most prestigious event of its type. Attracting many influential filmmakers, writers, actors and other celebrities, the festival usually takes place in May and, during that month, its red carpet is one of the most heavily-photographed locations on the planet. The last festival in May 2013 saw legendary film director Steven Spielberg take on the role of President of the Jury and the reputations of the festival guests in attendance were no less stellar.

Since her rise to fame as a member of the manufactured pop group Girls Aloud, Cheryl Cole has become a style and fashion icon. As the face of L'Oréal and a popular television personality, Cheryl's style is constantly scrutinised by the watching fashion world and she almost always manages to wow the crowds. At the Cannes Film Festival 2013, Cheryl chose to wear a truly magnificent sheer gown created by designer Zuhair Murad; with a deep russet colour and sparkling sequins, the dress was the talking point of the evening.

The sense of drama, luxury, decadence and excitement given by Cheryl's gorgeous dress can be easily matched with the use of Victoria russet lace, an elaborately-designed fabric that comprises a triptych of differently-sized floral motifs. Each flower in these motifs features a corded, embroidered construction that has been elegantly and evocatively highlighted with beads, sequins and a single fine filigree thread of the most reflective silver colouration. Victoria lace has a border which, with expert embroidery providing an entrancing effect of shading, contains clusters of pretty sequinned flowers leading to a tightly-scalloped, almost zigzag edge that fully embraces the trend for clean, geometric lines.

Cheryl's look is just one of the many that can be recreated using our laces; please check out our new 'Lace in the News' page for more inspiration and you could soon be stepping down the aisle in true celebrity fashion.
